8 Best Laptops Under Rs 40,000 in India 2021

Looking for Laptops under 40,000 you have come to the right place.

Buying a laptop is always a big financial decision as they cost more than a typical Android phone. Right now, due to the pandemic a laptop or a desktop has become inevitable for students, IT professionals and especially teachers who need to host classes for students online on a regular basis.

Building a desktop is not a thing that a regular user would like to do (Most likely). So, the Laptops become an inevitable choice for the users.

And choosing a laptop in and around 40K is not an easy task to do for a consumer as there are plethora of choices and there are new laptop companies every day.

As an Average consumer I want my laptop to work reliably and not fail on me whenever I use it. I understand lot of you are on a tight budget or you don’t want to spend a lot on money on buying a laptop which is electronic product after all.

But if you’re going to use your laptop extensively and bring your laptop down to its knees, I seriously recommend you to save/spend at most 5000rs.

What You Should Be Looking For?

Display:

Ideally you should be looking for a 1080p display as lot of laptops in this segment come with a 1366×768 displays. Brightness of 250 nits is Ideal or you must be looking at laptops greater than 200 nits. More nits equal more brightness which in turn results in greater outdoor visibility and brighter and more vivid media consumption. You should also lookout for whether the laptop has a IPS or a TN panel as IPS panels have better viewing angles.

Processor:

There is no specific processor of choice in this segment as both the intel and AMD counterparts come with only two cores and similar specifications. You can feel free to choose whatever processor you want according to your needs. Gaming is not a priority of these Chips so don’t expect amazing gaming performance. But you should be perfectly fine with most of tasks like chrome browsing and using MS office applications.

Storage and RAM:

Ideally you should be looking to buy a laptop with an SSD for fast bootup times. HDD and SSD combos are also good. Staying away from only HDD is advised as they are significantly slower compared to SSD. If you’re okay with slow loading time for windows and apps then HDD’s are not a problem.

Most of these laptops have 4 gigs of RAM which should be perfectly fine for casual users but if your workflow requires more amount of RAM you can choose a laptop with higher amount of RAM.

Battery Life:

Most of these laptops come with seemingly small 2 cell or 3 cell 37wh or 45wh batteries. But you need not be worried as they only power two core processors so you can easily expect 5 or 5+ hours of battery life without any problem.

Miscellaneous Stuff:

Some features differ from other laptops within the same price range. Some have fingerprint sensors while some others don’t.

All of these laptops are pretty slim and lightweight so you don’t have to worry about portability.

Some laptops have 14-inch screen whereas others have 15.6 inches so pick what screen size suits you.

The keyboards and trackpads in all of these laptops are mediocre so I advise you to pick up an external mouse for most purposes.

Now you’re ready to choose your desired laptops prioritize your needs in an order and let me show you the best picks.

Disclaimer: There are lots of new/generic brands popping every day on online shopping sites with very good specs for the price. I would generally like you to stay away from those products as the reliability of those products are a big question mark and moreover Warranty and service would be a big hassle as they are new companies. You are also advised to stay away from refurbished products unless you’re willing to take a bet as reliability of refurbished are also a big question mark and the warranty period is also lesser compared to newly bought products.

Asus VivoBook 14 is undoubtedly the best-looking Laptop in this price segment with its thin bezels around the screen and coming at just 1.5 kgs this is a true thin and light laptop in its nature.

As the name suggests it is a 14-inch laptop. But the screen is the weakest link of this laptop it maxes out at only 200 nits which is the lowest in this price segment though it has the highest screen to body ratio. The viewing angles are also no that great but it has an anti-reflective coating which might help. The screen resolution is 1080p.

The Keyboard doesn’t come with a number pad. The typing experience is also not that great as it comes with a very shallow key travel which is not a problem if you poke your keyboard with two fingers but if you are touch typist then it might pose you a problem. 4) Dell Vostro

The Dell vostro is Ugliest looking laptop in the bunch and this laptop is interesting as it has pretty good features which is held back by its ugly design.

The laptop has a mediocre looking screen with extremely thick bezels which makes it look like a laptop from 10 years ago and pales in comparison to the VivoBook 14 as this laptop also comes with a 14-inch screen. The screen quality is also pretty mediocre but it’s a 1080p screen so take it for what it is.

Keyboard is also not that great with very low key travel. The trackpad however is pretty good and the keyboard doesn’t have number pad.

It comes with a i3 processor and 4 gigs of ram. The storage is 1tb HDD with 256 gigs of SSD which is the best feature of this laptop. It has the most amount of storage in this segment paired with the SSD for fast bootup.

5) Acer Aspire 5

The Acer Aspire 5 is a thin and light offering form acer. This is the perfect alternative if you are not a fan of ASUS.

The laptop comes with a 14-inch screen with not so slim bezels all around. The screen to body ratio is not as bad as dell but not as good as acer. The screen is pretty good with a resolution of 1080P.

The keyboard is a chiclet style like the ASUS with low amount of travel and instant activation which you may or may not like. Like all the 14-inch laptops it to doesn’t come with a number pad. The trackpad however is pretty good with integrated left and right click buttons. The laptop however doesn’t come with a fingerprint sensor like ASUS which is its main competitor.

It comes with a core i3 processor and 4 gigs of ram. When it comes to storage this laptop comes with pretty interesting choices. It has an SSD combined with an intel Optane drive which should result in best in class bootup and loading times. It also has a variant that comes with 1TB HDD which costs less but I personally would not recommend that model.

The laptop also comes with a 48wh battery which is the best in class which should provide you with easy 6-hour screen on time. The speaker like most laptops in this price range is mediocre.

This laptop always goes under the radar as most of the time it is out of stock and is foreshadowed by its cousin Aspire 3. So be sure to pick up once its available under 40k as the price for this laptop fluctuates a lot and it goes out of stock pretty quickly.

There are some other laptops from the same brand mentioned here. The laptops mentioned here are the best from the respective brands which I’ve put together after comparing spec to spec. There are some other respectable mentions

6) Dell Inspiron 3593

It is almost similar to the Dell vostro 14 with similar specification and without an SSD. But the Screen here is 15.6 inches. So, if you want a 15-inch laptop from dell then this is your best choice.

Still it has the downsides of an ugly and thicker design compared to its counterparts but it still looks better than the 14-inch because of its 15.6-inch screen.

This cannot be considered to be a normal laptop and it comes only with a Pentium processor and only 64 gigs of storage. You must purchase the keyboard and other accessories like an iPad if you plan to use it like a computer. It gets an honorable mention as it covers a very unique userbase and might be useful for you.

8) Asus VivoBook 15

This is a sibling to the VivoBook 14 with similar clean aesthetics and a good design.

As the name suggests the laptop has a 15.6-inch 1080p screen unlike the 14 inches in the VivoBook 14. The screen is also better quality with 250 nits of brightness. The keyboard in this laptop also has a full-size layout with number pad.

The laptop comes with 1TB HDD and an intel core i3 processor with 4 gigs of ram. So, the loading speeds are not as fast as its Sibling VivoBook 14.

Other aspects of this laptop are pretty similar to the VivoBook 14. But the main catch here is the battery life which is only 32wh which provides you even worse battery life than the VivoBook 14 which didn’t have a great battery life to start. It would provide you around 3 hours of battery life.

If the screen is the most important priority for and the company of choice for you is ASUS then this is your best bet but the battery life of the laptop is poor.
