The laptop comes with a matte black lid with a semi transparent shell. The keyboard is a chiclet style keyboard with per key RGBl, the trackpad is wide and comfortable to use and doubles as a number pad. You get some extra set of keys to activate performance mode or the ROG crate. You also have an RGB light bar on the sides as well as a ROG logo.
You get dual 4W speakers that have a good bass but sound tinny and mushed. For connectivity, you have Wifi 6, gigabit ethernet and Bluetooth 5.1. As for thermals, the laptop comes with 6 copper pipes, 4 fan outlets and dual fans which are under the WASD keys and near the arrow keys so you don’t feel uncomfortable warming while enjoying your games. You get 16GB RAM which you can still upgrade to 64GB and Ryzen 7 5800H. Ryzen 7 is no slouch and shouldn’t have any problem handling intensive tasks. One advantage is the Ryzen 7 tends to take less power so a slight improvement in battery life and a minor improvement in thermals. So you can basically use it as your workstation, for live streaming, playing or benchmarking the latest gaming titles and editing your videos.
3. ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 (Ryzen 7 QHD)
Rating: 9.3/10
Check Cheapest Price : Amazon
Display | 15.6 inch QHD Anti Glare 165Hz IPS display |
Processor | AMD Ryzen 7 5800H 8 cores 16 threads processor @3.2Ghz ~ 4.4Ghz |
RAM | 16GB RAM (Expandable to 64GB) |
Storage capacity | 1TB SSD (Expansion slot for SSD) |
Graphics | Nvidia RTX 3080 with 16GB VRAM |
Weight | 2.3kg |
Battery Capacity | 90Whr battery with Fast charging |
Release Date | March 2021 |
Pros:
- Gorgeous 1440p Quad HD display
- Display has vivid and sharp colors with deep and detailed blacks
- 165Hz refresh rate 3ms G2G response time
- Comes with the powerful Ryzen 7 5800H processor
Cons:
- Battery life takes a hit due the QHD display
- Refresh rate goes down from 300Hz to 165Hz
- Heats up after prolonged intensive usage
This comes with a 1440p display. You do compromise on the higher refresh rate as it gets chopped by almost by half at 165Hz down from 300Hz but it’s very unlikely you will be able to take advantage of that high FPS if you play on 1440p resolution. But other than that, the internals should be more than enough for 1440p gaming. The battery life takes a hit due the QHD resolution but you do get fast charging that should get it to 50% in 30 minutes. Since the price is similar to the Full HD variant, this is our preferred choice.
