The primary aim of Huawei was to build a company that would help it compete in the online “BUDGET” market.

Now, earlier in April, Honor announced the Honor 8 Pro. Since then it has been a mediocre success for the company. Let’s take a look at what it has to offer.

1) Honor 8 Pro sports a seamless metal unibody design that looks and feels solid, as well as premium.

2) The blue variant of course is my personal favorite, and quite a head-turner.

3) It is 6.97mm thick, not the thinnest but considering the amount of battery it offers, it is quite impressive.

4) Its dimensions are 157 x 77.5 x 7 mm (6.18 x 3.05 x 0.28 in) and its weight is 184 g (6.49 oz.)

1) The screen on the phone is impressive.

2) It has a 5.7-inch (~73.6% screen-to-body ratio) LTPS IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (~515 ppi pixel density).

3) Yes, that is a 2K display. The display on the Honor 8 Pro offers a maximum brightness of 560 nits, which is brilliant.

4) The black levels are deep and while there’s a blue tint on white, it’s not too noticeable to the naked eye.

Internals (Hardware + Software)

1) The 8 Pro comes with HiSilicon Kirin 960 Chipset, 6 G.B. RAM, and the Mali-G71 MP8 GPU.

2) It has 128 G.B. of internal storage. It has support for MicroSD card for upto 256 GB of storage.

3) It offers 4000 mAh battery with support for fast charging.

4) On the software front, it has Android 7.0 Nougat with its own EMUI 5.1 on top.

5) It also has support of the 3D Vulkan API.

1) The rear camera on the Honor 8 Pro features a dual camera setup.

2) There’s no Leica branding this time around, but Huawei was one of the first in the dual-camera game and has put out several devices with this feature already.

3) The dual camera setup boasts of one RGB sensor and another monochrome sensor – both 12-megapixel ones with f/2.2 aperture.

4) And there’s a dual-tone LED flash. Both sensors work in unison to produce detailed photos with higher dynamic range.

5) The RGB sensor processes all the color information while the monochrome sensor extracts the details from the shadows as well as highlights.

6) It can record 4K videos.

7) The front camera has an 8 MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture.

Should you buy it?

Depends. It does offer that bank for your buck. If you are looking for a phone with better camera, screen and speakers, then this is the one. If performance is more important to you then you might want to look towards the OnePlus 5.
