Top 5 Best Flagships Killer Smartphones (Early 2018)

As the flagship prices have been soaring high recently, it opens up a spot in the smartphone arena to be filled up by a new class of smartphones popularly known as flagship killers. The price segment which was occupied by flagships 3-4 years ago is now occupied by these new comers.

These smartphones try to offer flagship specs at almost half the price with little bit of corner cutting here and there. This category has gained much popularity in last two years especially in India which is evident from the all time high sales of OnePlus smartphones.

 1  OnePlus 5T

(🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟)

Even though, many people aren’t happy with what OnePlus is doing with their T lineup and it may drive some of their hardcore fans away, it is definitely a welcome addition to the familyOnePlus 5T Smartphone

OnePlus 5 was their best offering till date with the dual camera setup and 8gigs of RAM but the only complaint was that the phone didn’t look modern enough due to the lack of bezelless 18:9 design. OnePlus seems to have addressed the issue with this phone.

Specs

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 (4×2.45 GHz and 4×1.9GHz)
  • 6GB RAM-64GB, 8GB RAM-128GB
  • Adreno 540 GPU
  • Dual sim with no SD card expansion
  • 5.5-inch 1080 x 2160p optic AMOLDED display (404 PPI) (18:9 FHD+)
  • Dual: 16 MP (f/1.7, 27mm, 1/2.8″, 1.12 µm, gyro EIS) + 20 MP (f/1.7, 27mm, 1/2.8″, 1 µm) rear, 16 MP (f/2.0) front facing secondary
  • 3300 mAh battery.

Pros

1) OnePlus phones don’t need any introduction as such. The performance is to notch and can bring most of the smartphones (flagships included) down to its knees. It holds the crown to be the fastest android phone thanks to its optimization of stock like experience and rapid fast animations.

2) Having stock like experience brings many advantages along with it, hence updates will always be rapid fast.

3) This phone will age gracefully considering the fact that it has 6-8GB of RAM and the most powerful processor of the time, hence one can expect that this phone can easily last for almost 3 years without any hiccups. No RAM management issues here.

4) Oxygen OS adds a sweet layer of customization over stock android bringing many handy features which are useful but stays out of the way if not needed. Features like Gaming do not disturb mode to block distracting notifications while gaming and reading mode which turns the display grayscale to reduce eye strain and other features like gestures for actions and the highly encouraged alert slider and unique features which makes the phone a sweet option over others.

5) Face Unlock is present which is as of now a rare feature in phones and it works fine. It isn’t the most secure unlocking method so can’t be trusted for payments and stuff but for unlocking, it’s stupid fast, even faster than iPhone X’s FaceID

Cons-

1) No official water resistance is offered

2) Metallic back is very slippery

3) Camera bump has increased as compared to OnePlus 5

Best Suited For:

No one buys OnePlus by mistake. It is a good option for someone trying out Android for the first time or someone who wants Pixel like experience for a lower price. It’s a overall balanced phone for all use cases.

 3  Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

(🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟)

The original Mi Mix launched last year was somewhat responsible to flag off the new bezelless trend we are seeing today on flagship phones.

Mi Mix 2 SmartphoneThe original Mix was more of like a concept phone and had issues that stopped it from being famous in mainstream market like the piezoelectric speaker, etc.

Mix 2 has supposedly fixed all those shortcomings to make it a product that could be closer to a sellable phone.

Specs

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 (4×2.45 GHz and 4×1.9GHz)
  • 6GB RAM – 128GB storage
  • Adreno 540
  • Dual sim support (no SD card support)

2) Stereo speaker setup is present unlike most of the phones in the price segment.

3) Idle battery drain is very low hence gives long standby time.

4) Performance is very good even though it is running on MiUI which is a very heavy skin.

2) Headphone jack is missing. (Sadly!)

3) No dual camera setup is present unlike competition.
